John Smedley - footbridge installation project

A Bison footbridge has replaced a failed bridge adjacent to the John Smedley Lea Mill factory in Matlock, Derbyshire.
This idyllic location is home to the world’s oldest manufacturing factory in continuous operation!

Our bridge installation team carried out the following works on this project:

Cut back and removal of vegetation to access the bridge area.

Removed and disposed of the old bridge.

Excavated and create new concrete abutments.

Installed the 10,000mm long x 1200mm wide Bison pedestrian footbridge consisting of:

  • Galvanised RSJ beams
  • Anti-slip timber decking
  • Timber parapet posts, side rails and handrails (featuring timber infill panels)

Supplied and installed 6m fencing to make good fencing connections to the John Smedley side of bridge.
