Football Club Spectator Rail Fencing Installation for Berkhamsted FC

When Berkhamsted FC required a full perimeter upgrade around their pitch, the priority was clear: improve spectator safety, strengthen pitch-side security and install durable access points fit for matchday traffic.

Spectator Rail Fencing Installation

The project began with the dismantling of the existing fence and barrier system. Existing sponsorship boards were carefully retained for reuse following installation.

We then installed approximately 306 metres of 1.1m high spectator handrail mesh security fencing, designed to provide clear pitch visibility while maintaining safe separation between players and supporters on matchdays.

The fencing specification included:

• 60 x 40 SHS steel posts at nominal 2.5m centres
• 1030mm high Defender 8T mesh panels
• Full-length clamp bars with security bolts
• 48mm diameter continuous handrail

A total of 122 posts and 122 bays were installed across the perimeter to create a durable, low-maintenance spectator rail system suitable for long-term sports ground use.

Sports Ground Access Gates & Security

To ensure secure and practical access for both maintenance teams and matchday operations, Secure-a-Field installed:

• Two sets of 4.0m wide double-leaf vehicle access gates, fitted with padlockable slide latches for client-supplied padlocks
• One 1.2m wide pedestrian access gate, also secured with a padlockable slide latch

All posts were set in ballast and cement, creating a stable foundation suitable for grass sports surfaces and high-traffic environments.

Built for Matchday Use

Grass reinstatement was completed following installation, and all materials were delivered and managed directly by Secure-a-Field. Works were coordinated carefully to minimise disruption to club operations and scheduled fixtures.
