Bridge Replacement Project at Chesterton, Warwickshire

Secure-a-Field Installs New Bison Pedestrian Bridge and Access Improvements

Secure-a-Field recently completed the replacement of a deteriorated pedestrian bridge in Chesterton, Warwickshire, delivering a safe, durable and low-maintenance crossing solution for public access and land management.

The project involved the removal and responsible disposal of an existing timber bridge that had reached the end of its service life. Our team then installed a new Bison pedestrian bridge and self-closing pedestrian gate.

The Challenge

The existing timber bridge structure had suffered significant decay, creating a safety hazard and asset that was beyond being repaired.

Our client required a replacement bridge capable of providing safe pedestrian access while minimising future maintenance requirements. The Solution:

Secure-a-Field supplied and installed a new 6-metre-long by 0.9-metre-wide Bison pedestrian bridge featuring:

  • Ground screw foundations to provide a robust, concrete-free and low-impact installation
  • Galvanised steel structural beams for exceptional strength and longevity
  • Recycled plastic decking and parapets bolted directly to the bridge structure
  • A Dovey self-closing pedestrian gate at the paddock entrance
  • A waymarker post fitted with a plastic yellow waymarker cap to assist route navigation

Built for Long-Term Performance

Unlike traditional timber structures, the new bridge combines galvanised steel with recycled plastic components to provide a highly durable crossing solution that is resistant to rot, decay and weathering.

The recycled plastic decking and parapets offer excellent longevity in outdoor environments while helping to reduce future maintenance costs. Combined with the galvanised steel framework, the bridge provides a robust solution designed to withstand years of continuous use.

Improving Access and Livestock Security

Alongside the bridge installation, Secure-a-Field incorporated a Dovey pedestrian gate to maintain safe access for walkers while protecting livestock within the paddock.

The addition of a waymarker post further enhances usability, helping visitors navigate the route with confidence.

A Sustainable Countryside Access Solution

The completed project provides Chesterton with a modern pedestrian crossing that delivers:

  • Safe and reliable pedestrian access
  • Reduced maintenance requirements
  • Resistance to rot and decay
  • Long service life
  • Improved route navigation
  • Secure livestock management
  • Sustainable construction through the use of recycled plastic materials

By combining proven Bison bridge technology with practical access and fencing solutions, Secure-a-Field delivered a durable infrastructure improvement that will serve the local community and countryside users for many years to come.
