Perimeter Security Upgrade at Baxter College, Kidderminster

Client: Baxter College
Location: Habberley Road, Kidderminster, DY11 5PQ
Sector: Education
Secure-a-Field was appointed by Baxter College to upgrade perimeter security and improve control of access around the school site. The project involved installing new mesh fencing and gates to create a secure and well-defined boundary while maintaining clear visibility for supervision.

The Challenge

Baxter College needed to replace ageing fencing that no longer met the school's security or safeguarding standards. The site includes several open areas and changes in ground level, so the new system had to be strong, adaptable, and visually suitable for a school environment.

The brief was clear: improve security without creating a harsh or industrial look, and complete the works with minimal disruption to day-to-day school life.

The Solution

Our team supplied and installed a tailored fencing package built around the Defender V mesh system — a proven choice for schools and colleges.

The work included:

  • Supply and installation of an 8m wide x 2 m high automated sliding gate, including groundworks and ducting for power and data from adjacent plant room.
  • 400 metres of 2.0 m-high Defender V mesh fencing to secure the main boundary.

  • A further 15 m section on a sloped area, installed with posts at 500 mm centres for added stability, and fitted with a 1200 mm single-leaf access gate.

  • One semi-automatic pedestrian gate, 1200 mm wide, providing controlled access for staff and pupils.

  • 18 mtr of 2000 mm-high Defender 358 mesh fencing to form a secure enclosure around a sliding gate area.

All components were finished to match the surrounding environment, ensuring the new boundary blends neatly with existing buildings and landscaping.

The Result

The completed works have transformed the site's perimeter, giving Baxter College a secure and tidy boundary that's built to last. The Defender mesh system provides both strength and transparency, allowing staff to monitor activity without obstruction.

The combination of new fencing and well-placed access gates means the college can now manage movement around the site more efficiently, particularly during busy arrival and departure times. Staff feedback since completion has been extremely positive — the site feels safer, looks smarter, and requires very little maintenance.
