Rabbit-Proof Fencing & Ground Restoration at Brockington College, Leicester

Client: Brockington College
Location: Blaby Road, Enderby, Leicester

Project Overview

Secure-a-Field was commissioned by Brockington College to carry out vital works on the school's playing fields, including the removal of old fencing and the installation of a new wildlife deterrent system. Persistent issues caused by rabbit activity —had compromised both the fencing line and the safety of the turf, prompting the college to invest in a long-term solution to protect and restore the area.

Scope of Works

Removal of Existing Fencing

Our team dismantled, removed, and responsibly disposed of 330 metres of existing 1.2m-high V mesh fencing combined with ineffective rabbit netting. This cleared the way for the installation of a more secure and durable deterrent system.

Installation of Rabbit-Proof Netting

A trench was excavated along the full length of the existing fence line — 150mm wide and 300mm deep.
We then supplied and installed specialist rabbit netting, buried 300mm into the ground before being run vertically up the face of the fence.
The mesh was attached using ring clips, ensuring a strong and tamper-resistant fix.
All trenches were then backfilled, compacted, and grass-seeded to promote natural regrowth.

Field Soil Restoration

To eliminate the trip hazards caused by years of burrowing, our team supplied and tracked in around 10 tonnes of recycled topsoil along the previous fence line. This levelled out the ground and created a smooth, hazard-free transition between the fence and the playing field.
A further 10 tonnes of topsoil were spread across the turf to repair divots and surface damage caused by burrowing activity. All affected areas were then seeded to support healthy grass regrowth.

Project Outcomes

  • A durable, rabbit-proof barrier now protects the college's field perimeter, reducing the risk of future damage and maintenance costs.

  • The playing surface has been fully levelled and reseeded, removing health and safety concerns related to uneven or burrowed ground.
