Security Fencing and Access Upgrades for Leicester College

Client: Leicester College
Sector: Education / Facilities Management
Project Scope: Perimeter security, gate access upgrades, and fencing replacement

Secure-a-Field was appointed by Leicester College to carry out a series of perimeter and access control upgrades across several of its Leicester-based sites. The objective was to improve site security, enhance access control, and replace outdated or underperforming fencing and gates with robust, low-maintenance solutions suitable for a busy urban college environment.

Painter Street Car Park

At this location, we removed the existing timber knee rail, which had reached the end of its service life. It was replaced with 21 metres of 2000mm high Defender 8T mesh fencing, a durable steel mesh system designed for high-use, high-security environments.
Two large vehicle access gates — 1 x 4400mm wide and 1 x 3700mm wide — were installed to match the fencing, ensuring ease of vehicle entry while maintaining a consistent perimeter line.

Belgrave Gate

To enhance the frontage and improve security at Belgrave Gate, we installed 22 metres of 1900mm high bow-top railings, ideal for public-facing boundaries where visual appeal and safety are key considerations. A 4000mm wide gate was added for vehicular access, designed to match the style and height of the railing.

Memory Lane

A larger-scale upgrade was carried out here, with the installation of 56 metres of 2000mm high Defender 8T mesh fencing, alongside:

  • 2 cantilever sliding gates with secure enclosures for controlled vehicle access

  • 2 pedestrian gates, each 1200mm wide, to facilitate safe foot traffic
This installation significantly improved both perimeter security and access management at a high-traffic college entrance.

Nursery / Car Park

The old fencing system and one large gate were removed to make way for:

  • 45 metres of 2000mm high Defender 8T mesh fencing

  • 2 x 1200mm wide pedestrian gates

  • 1 x 5300mm wide vehicular gate
This upgrade enhanced the safety of nursery users and improved traffic flow in and out of the adjacent parking area.

Basin

Finally, we supplied and installed 1 x 1200mm wide pedestrian gate and 2 metres of Defender 8T mesh fencing to tie into existing infrastructure, completing the security improvements across the college estate.

Outcome

The installations across all sites were completed efficiently and to specification, with minimal disruption to college operations. The use of Defender 8T mesh fencing provided a consistent, secure, and low-maintenance solution ideal for educational environments. Meanwhile, the combination of pedestrian, vehicular, and cantilever gates ensured tailored access control at each site, meeting both security and operational needs.

Secure-a-Field's flexible approach and proven experience with education sector clients ensured this multi-location project was delivered with precision and reliability.
