Spectator Rail & Access Gate Installation

When Berkhamsted FC required a full perimeter upgrade around their pitch, the priority was clear: improve spectator safety, strengthen pitch-side security and install durable access points fit for matchday traffic.

Secure-a-Field delivered a complete removal and replacement programme, managing dismantling, installation and reinstatement from start to finish.

Scope of Works

The project began with the dismantling of the existing fence and barrier system. Sponsorship boards were retained for reuse.

We then installed approximately 306 metres of 1.1m high spectator handrail mesh security fencing, designed to provide clear pitch visibility while maintaining safe separation between players and supporters.

The fencing specification included:

• 60 x 40 SHS steel posts at nominal 2.5m centres
• 1030mm high Defender 8T mesh panels
• Full-length clamp bars with security bolts
• 48mm diameter continuous handrail

A total of 122 posts and 122 bays were installed across the perimeter.

Access Control & Gates

To ensure secure and practical access for both maintenance and matchday use, we installed:

• Two sets of 4.0m wide double-leaf vehicle gates, fitted with padlockable slide latches for client-supplied padlocks
• One 1.2m wide pedestrian gate, also secured with a padlockable slide latch

Posts were set in ballast and cement, providing a stable foundation suitable for grass surfaces.

Built for Matchday Demands

Grass reinstatement was completed following installation, and all materials were delivered and managed directly by Secure-a-Field. Works were coordinated to minimise disruption to club operations.

The finished installation provides:
